Unalaska Department of Public Safety publishes travel advisories, chain use authorizations, and other critical public safety notices as needed during severe weather, natural disasters, or other emergencies.

Travel advisories are divided into three categories:
Category 1 - Travel is still possible, but caution is advised.
Category 2 - Travel is limited. Roads may be temporarily impassable or there are extended whiteout conditions. Travel should be limited to that which is absolutely necessary.
Category 3 - Certain areas are closed to traffic. Roads may be closed due to avalanches, washouts, or other extreme conditions.
NIXLE.com
In addition to the hotline, advisories are posted to Nixle.com. There are three (3) ways to receive alerts from Nixle
- Use the link below to access the Unalaska "Nixle Wire", an online web based feed of all published alerts.
- Sign-up to receive notifications directly to your email by creating a Nixle account using the second link below.

- Do not wait for siren activation in the event of an earthquake lasting over 30 seconds or that knocks you off your feet.
- Understanding Siren Activations
- Evacuate - 3 minute activation, 20-30 second pause, 3 minute activation, repeated for 5 cycles.
