Business Licenses
Overview
A City of Unalaska business license is required for anyone doing business with a physical presence in Unalaska; or who owns rental property in Unalaska. Business licenses are not required for remote sellers registered with the Alaska Remote Seller Sales Tax Commission.
Business licenses are issued on a calendar-year basis. The effective date of an initial license is the date of issuance by the City or January 1st, whichever is later. All business licenses expire on December 31st of each year. An annual fee of $25 is due upon application. Business licenses are governed by Unalaska Code of Ordinances, Chapter 9.04. Business license applications are available in the City Clerk’s Office, or by clicking the link below.
Display of License
Business licenses must be displayed by the licensee on the business premises in the primary area of public contact for the business. If the licensee does not have a regular place of business, the licensee must carry and display the business license while engaged in any business-related public contact.
Penalties
A person who fails to procure a license when required will be assessed a late fee, plus a penalty of 25% of the license fee due for each 30-day period of violation or portion thereof, during which the person engages in business without a license. In addition to the late fee and penalty, a person violating UCO Chapter 9.04 may be found guilty of a minor offense and subject to a penalty as provided by UCO 1.24.010.
