Unalaska City School District Overview
Unalaska City School District (UCSD) is dedicated to its vision where all are “Inspired to navigate opportunities along unique, personal journeys.” Serving approximately 325 K-12 students and their families, UCSD is supported by 29 certified teachers and administrators, along with 35 classified employees. Our diverse community celebrates at least eight different cultures, fostering a spirit of inclusion and belonging where family languages, values, and traditions come together to shape our identity.
UCSD operates two schools: Eagle’s View Elementary (PreK-5) and Unalaska City School (6-12). Together, they offer a cohesive, comprehensive educational experience that promotes both academic achievement and social-emotional development. Both schools prioritize safety, positivity, and relationship-building, while providing students with access to modern facilities. Classrooms are equipped with fiber optic technology and 1:1 devices, integrated with diverse curricular resources to enhance learning.
UCSD’s mission is clear: “Our dynamic community will ensure a caring environment which exposes, educates, and supports learning through joyful challenges while thriving together.” Though small in size, UCSD offers a wealth of opportunities. We consistently rank among the top academic districts in the state, with course offerings and special events designed for students preparing for careers in the workforce, military, college, or trades. Beyond academics, students have access to a wide array of activities including NYO, basketball, wrestling, volleyball, swimming, band, student government, NHS, eSports, Battle of the Books, pep club, history club, art club, and more.
UCSD’s history of success is reflected in numerous accolades, including:
- Current: District-Wide Cognia Accreditation (valid through 2027)
- 2016: Top High School in Alaska by Niche
- 2012: National Blue Ribbon School Award (Eagle’s View Elementary)
- 2011: National Blue Ribbon School Award for academic excellence (grades 7-12)
- 2010: U.S. News & World Report Bronze Medal for America’s Best High Schools
- 2007: Faculty Performance Incentive Program Award for high academic performance
- 2000: Offspring Magazine’s Top 100 School Districts
- State Individual and Team competition award winners
While these honors are significant, UCSD takes equal pride in the daily successes of its students. Whether it's peer support, improved attendance, academic growth, leadership development, or community service, continuous improvement is at the heart of what we do. We remain focused on preparing students for their future, with students always at the center of our efforts.
UCSD is fortunate to have robust support from the Unalaska community and city council. Their partnership helps maintain our infrastructure, provide student activity travel, and ensure all students have access to healthy, tasty meals. Together, we proudly embody the essence of a true community school.
