General Information
Election Information
Municipal elections are held every year on the first Tuesday in October. Unalaska’s polling place is City Hall, 43 Raven Way, Unalaska. The polling place opens at 8:00 a.m. and closes at 8:00 p.m. for local elections.
State and national general elections are held in even numbered years on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. The polling place is City Hall, and opens at 7:00 a.m. and closes at 8:00 p.m. for state and national elections. Eligibility to Vote
You may vote in a municipal election only if:

You are qualified in state elections under AS 15.05.010.

A Citizen of the United States
-
18 years of age or older
-
A resident of the State of Alaska and the House District in which you seek to vote for least 30 days before the election; and
-
You are registered to vote in Alaska and not registered to vote in another jurisdiction
-

Have resided in the City of Unalaska for at least 30 days immediately preceding the election
-
Registered to vote in state elections at a residence address within the City of Unalaska for at least 30 days before the city election at which the you seek to vote; and
-
Not disqualified under Article V of the State Constitution.
Voter Registration
In order to vote in a municipal election, you must register no later than 30 days before the election. If you are registered to vote in state elections, you are registered to vote in the municipal election. Your registration remains active as long as you remain a resident in good standing.
You may register anytime within 90 days immediately preceding your 18th birthday. If you are over 18 years old, you may register at any time.
If you need to update your registration with a name or address change, you must do so no later than 30 days before an election by submitting a voter registration form containing the updated information.
Registration to vote may be done on-line by going to the State of Alaska Division of Elections website or by picking up a form at the Public Library, or City Clerk’s Office in City Hall.
Absentee Voting
Alaska statute and the Unalaska Code of Ordinances provide for the following ways to vote absentee:

In person (20 days prior to an election)

By mail (application deadline is not more than 35 days and not less than 5 days before the election)

By electronic transmission (application deadline is noon on the day prior to the election)
