Dan Masoni Honored with Naming of Library Conference Room
Calendar Date:
Thursday, May 19, 2016 - 5:00pmThe Conference Room at the Unalaska Public Library will now be named the Dan Masoni Conference Room, in honor of long-time Unalaska Librarian Dan Masoni. The library will mark the occasion with a reception and informal dedication ceremony on May 19, 2016 at 5:00 pm. Dan will attend via Skype.
Dan served as Unalaska’s Librarian for more than 18 years. M. Lynn Crane, Chair of the Library Advisory Committee says of Dan, “When he started the job in 1996, the community had a vision for the kind of library we wanted to have. Dan helped to clarify that vision. He gently ushered us in the direction we wanted to travel and expertly paved the road for us to get there. He schooled us on the roles that community libraries can and should play and guided us to always operate with those roles in mind. Without his stewardship, we would not be where we are today.”
In addition to his role as Librarian, Dan also was a very active member of the Ballyhoo Lions Club and served on the Board of the Unalaska City School District.
Dan Masoni was the driving force behind the creation of what is now the world-class and nationally recognized Unalaska Public Library. His legacy will live on in Unalaska forever and will continue to alter and enrich the lives of all the children and adults of our community.
