Local Man Deceased After Being Buried in Avalanche

February 25, 2020 - 2200 Hours
At approximately 17:27 hours on February 25th, 2020 Unalaska Public Safety Dispatch Center received a call for assistance. The caller reported that there had been an avalanche off of Overland Road in Unalaska Valley and that a snomachiner was buried.
Fire, EMS and Police responded, as well as a number of local Good Samaritans on snowmachines. EMS personnel were transported to the avalanche area, and along with volunteers were successful in extricating Trey N. Henning, 21 years of age of Unalaska. CPR was initiated and other lifesaving measures were taken both on the scene and throughout his extrication from the mountain. Henning was taken to the Unalaska Clinic for continued care. After exhausting all efforts to revive him, he was pronounced deceased at 1858 hours.
The Unalaska Fire Department wants to advise backcountry enthusiast to use extreme caution when adventuring or traversing potential avalanche areas.
