Burn Permits

Burning trash, rubbish, scrap wood, cardboard, flammable or combustible liquids, or any other material is prohibited unless a valid burn permit has been issued and the requirements of the permit are adhered to.

A burn permit is not necessary for a burn barrel (55 gallon drum or smaller), if the fire is a small bonfire, picnic, or camp fire or a barbecue, and the fire can be readily distinguished from a structure fire.  As a general rule these types of fires should be no larger than a stack of 3 standard size wooden pallets.

Permits may be obtained from the Department of Public Safety located at 29 Safety Way, Unalaska, AK.

Burning without a valid permit and/or failure to comply with any provision of the permit is a violation and, upon conviction, is punishable under the law.
