POSITION: Utility Lineman Chief
SALARY: $63.97 - $67.86/hourly [Union Position Hiring range - Step 1-3]
The City of Unalaska is accepting applications for the Utility Lineman Chief position. Located in the number one commercial fishing port in the United States, the International Port of Dutch Harbor, Unalaska, Alaska, is a coastal community in the Eastern Aleutian Islands with a multi-cultural population of approximately 4,250 full-time residents and seasonal influxes from multiple commercial fishery operations.

The duties shown are designed to provide a representative summary.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of the Director of Public Utilities, this position supervises the line crew to ensure that electricity is furnished to all City of Unalaska consumers efficiently and cost-effectively.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: Comprehensive knowledge of principles and practices applied to electrical systems and plans. Ability to establish productive professional working relationships within the departments and the public. Ability to establish a good team environment, provide supervision, and prepare and conduct meetings of the line crew. Must be proficient in primary and secondary field engineering designs with input from the crew, including capital improvement projects. Ability to perform other duties such as tracking ongoing projects, maintaining capital project files, updating electrical plans, meeting with the public and contractors, ordering equipment to include transformers and sectionalizing cabinets, and tracking inventory. Must be proficient with radio communications and coordinate from sub-station with line crew and Powerhouse during power outages. Ability to understand and monitor underground electrical distribution systems and equipment for replacement and/or repair and sign off on all electrical components of capital projects. Must be able to operate standard electrical equipment, testers, and instruments. Proficient in planning, organizing, directing, problem-solving, and utilizing Windows environment, including word processing, spreadsheet, and database software. Must maintain confidentiality and have knowledge of or the ability to learn and comply with all required OSHA safety regulations and safety standards set by the City, the State of Alaska, and the National Electric Safety Code.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
> A high school diploma or equivalent is required; combinations of education and experience will be evaluated individually.
> Required to have completed four (4) years’ electrical apprentice program and/or five (5) years’ experience in electric distribution.
> Experience in electrical engineering design preferred.
> Required to have a minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience
LICENCES & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
> Must be at least 18 years of age.
> Required Journeyman Lineman Certificate of Fitness from the Alaska Department of Labor or the ability to obtain one within six (6) months of hire.
> Required to have, or be able to obtain, an Alaska CDL Class “B” within 90 days of hire.
> Ability to pass all required pre-employment testing, i.e., Criminal background history and random drug testing.
> Must be eligible to work in the US; required by Federal Law if hired to complete an Employment Eligibility Verification form (I-9).
> Required to work occasional emergency or non-traditional hours and or call-outs.
> Ability to work in all types of weather, including dust, snow, darkness, and cold.
> Must maintain active and current certifications and licensing for the duration of employment.
