Position: Student Aide – Temporary Full Time
Salary: $20.00/hourly
The City of Unalaska is accepting applications for the position of Student Aide in the Department of Public Safety. Located in the central Aleutian Islands, Unalaska, Alaska is a multicultural coastal community of approximately 4,500 full-time residents and is home to the number one commercial fishing port in the United States, the International Port of Dutch Harbor.
The following duties are not intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by employees in this classification. Duties show are intended to provide a representative summary.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: This position is closely supervised by a first line supervisor. The job will involve assisting staff with public safety-related community service projects; assisting with development of recruitment materials; assisting with basic animal control activities; equipment maintenance; light grounds maintenance; and other duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Must have the ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions. Must have experience with basic office software such as Microsoft Word, Excel and/or Access. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Applicants with experience in basic publishing software strongly preferred.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education and experience which demonstrates the knowledge and experience to perform the work assigned.
LICENCES & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be at least 18 years of age
Must possess a valid Alaska Driver’s license
Must be eligible to work in the US; if hired must complete employment eligibility verification form (I-9) as required by Federal law
Successfully pass background test which includes criminal background, professional and reference check
Successfully pass a pre-employment drug test prior to beginning work
Applicants with certifications to CPR, EMT, FF-I or Euthanasia Technician strongly preferred
