City of Unalaska Welcomes New Fire Chief
Unalaska, Alaska, March 6, 2020 – City Manager Erin Reinders is pleased to announce that Patrick Shipp has been hired as the new Fire Chief for the City of Unalaska. Mr. Shipp should be joining the team in early April.
“Patrick is an excellent addition to our leadership team and I am confident that he will serve the City of Unalaska, the Fire Department, and our community with integrity and respect,” said City Manager Erin Reinders.
Mr. Shipp has demonstrated commitment to local government and public service, having served as Fire Chief and Emergency Manager for about 12 years in Webster, Texas. He began his Fire career as a Corpsman in the U.S. Coast Guard and has also served a number of years in Firefighter and Paramedic positions. Mr. Shipp’s educational background in Fire Administration and Executive Leadership complements his Fire and Emergency Management professional background.
Mr. Shipp was selected after a nationwide search resulting in a total of eight (8) Fire Chief applicants, which was narrowed down to three (3) very highly skilled potential candidates. This was followed by a process that included a telephone interview, onsite interview, reference and background check, city facility tours, as well as discussions with several staff members and fire volunteers.
