Methamphetamine sales sweep

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Methamphetamine sales sweep, 22 December 2016

Unalaska, AK – In an effort to combat the rise of methamphetamine use and sales in Unalaska, UDPS officers spent months conducting operations focused on identifying local methamphetamine distribution networks. Using undercover officers and confidential informants, officers obtained methamphetamine from eight different individuals during the three-month operation. In a sweep conducted on 21-22 December, five people were arrested; a sixth was already in custody on unrelated charges, and two additional arrests are expected. Search warrants were served on several residences and vehicles in conjunction with these arrests.

Charges against the eight defendants include those related to possession and/or distribution of controlled substances, and illegal possession of firearms. The Department anticipates being able to release additional information after all defendants have been arraigned.
