Kloosterboer Ammonia

Kloosterboer Ammonia Leak, 03 December 2016
Unalaska, AK – Thirteen UDPS emergency personnel and seven members of Unisea’s HazMat team responded to the Kloosterboer facility on Ballyhoo Road at approximately 1245 after ammonia began leaking from a line inside the Kloosterboer freezer. One victim with serious injuries was extricated and decontaminated before being transported by ambulance to the IFHS Clinic. Unisea and UDPS responders ensured that the ammonia supply was shut off, are ventilating the facility and expect to be clear of the area by approximately 4pm. Traffic on Ballyhoo Road has been restricted to one lane while emergency responders are on scene.
City personnel are staffing the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) for the duration of the incident. One other minor injury was reported.
