Department of Public Works is accepting applications for the position of STOREKEEPER I. This Position is open for applications until filled.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: This is an entry-level position that, under the direct supervision of the Supply Division Supervisor, receives stocks, organizes and issues various materials. The work involves several sequential steps in the receiving, stocking and recording of inventory.
EXAMPLES OF WORK: Fills out work orders, dispenses items, and posts to inventory control cards. Prepares inventory cards and boxes for new stock items. Tags items. Stock satellite warehouse and receive bulk shipments. Reorganizes parts as directed for better accessibility. Picks up mail, supplies and materials obtained locally, distributes to appropriate department. May operate a motor vehicle or forklift to facilitate the movement of materials on a limited basis. Data entry of orders using inventory software. Logs fuel entries, assembles bill-out work order information.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Strong, detail-oriented and accurate data entry skills are a must and candidate must have the ability to learn and use MUNIS, Fox Pro, Phoenix, and Extra Fleet software for report preparation and generation. Must be proficient in a Windows environment, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and database software. Knowledge of office practices and procedures. Ability to use basic office equipment including: fax machine, multi-line phone, adding machine, and copier. Have basic knowledge of record keeping and filing systems. Knowledge of or the ability to learn established material handling procedures. Ability to learn inventory control procedures and related software. Have the ability to operate various motor vehicles (pickup, flatbed, box truck) and various forklifts. Good written and oral communication skills, problem-solving skills, and interpersonal skills. Have the ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with officials, staff, the public, vendors, and agencies.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or equivalent required. College or a technical training with emphasis on inventory control, business, and/or computers preferred. Experience operating a forklift and handling/transporting freight preferred. Any combination of education and experience that can provide the knowledge skills and abilities listed will be evaluated on an individual basis.
LICENSES AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: A valid Alaska drivers license is required. As a condition of employment, the person selected will be required to successfully complete a drug test prior to beginning work and will be subject to future periodic drug and alcohol tests on a random basis without advance notice. Will be required to become a member in good standing with IUOE Local 302 within 30 days of employment.
