Position: RECREATION ASSISTANT
Wage: $26.26 - $27.85 / hour [union position, hiring range Step 1-3]
The City of Unalaska is accepting applications for the position of Recreation Assistant. Located in the central Aleutian Islands, Unalaska, Alaska is a multicultural coastal community of approximately 4,500 full-time residents and is home to the number one commercial fishing port in the United States, the International Port of Dutch Harbor.
The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification. Shown are duties intended to provide a representative summary.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Under direct supervision of the Operations Manager, this position provides routine clerical, secretarial, and administrative work in answering phones, receiving the public, providing customer assistance, cashiering, data processing, and some bookkeeping.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a job history that includes the following:
Working knowledge of computers and database software and general office equipment.
Knowledge and ability to work and follow office practices and procedures.
Ensure security by opening and closing the building and the safety of persons in the building.
Process paperwork from memberships to program registrations.
Some knowledge of accounting principles, receipt payments, and posts monies in appropriate accounts.
Ability to perform cashier duties accurately.
Ability to multitask and use a central telephone system, route calls, and or provide information as required.
Ability to courteously meet and deal with the public and refers to the appropriate person when necessary.
Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to handle stressful situations.
Miscellaneous duties as assigned such as aid recreation staff with set up and break down, assist on supply and mail runs, office orders, and clean up.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
|High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Six (6) months of experience working with the public is required.
Specialized course work in general office practices and/or one (1) year of professional office experience in a public sector environment preferred.
LICENSES & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Required to have, or be able to obtain, an Alaska Driver’s License within 90 days of hire.
Ability to pass all required pre-employment testing i.e. Criminal background and History and future periodic random drug testing.
Will be required to obtain First Aid, CPR, and AED Certifications once hired.
Must be eligible to work in the US; requirements by Federal Law if hired must complete employment eligibility verification form (I-9)
Able to work non-traditional hours and on weekends.
BENEFITS:
If applicable, lump sum relocation assistance (taxable) maximum of $7,000 plus airfare for the employee and one family member
Travel allowance is $2,000 every year on your date of hire after 1st year of employment
Longevity bonus of $2,000 beginning on the third (3rd) year anniversary
Education Incentive per month dependent on degree, Associate $200, BA $300, Master $400
Free Annual Membership of Life Med (employee & dependents).
Free Membership for Parks, Culture, and Recreation (employee only).
Medical and Dental premiums are 100% employer paid (employee & dependents).
48 hours of Floating Holiday per year plus 7 days of paid holidays
Paid time off starting at 16 hours a month.
Eligible for PERS retirement.
Up to 100% tuition reimbursement (must be taken while employed; refer to Title III).
