The Department of Planning is accepting applications for the position of Planning Student Intern.  Two (2) positions are open for applications until Wednesday, July 12, 2017.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: This position is supervised closely by Planning Department staff members.  The job involves the collection of data as determined by the City’s Comprehensive Plan.  Projects may include collecting field data for uploading into the City’s GPS software; conducting a survey of housing conditions and affordability and other census-related data collection projects.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:   Must have the ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.  Must have some technological/computer experience, including data entry and analysis, digital photography uploading with the ability to coordinate the collected data with the photographs.  Field work may include working in poor weather conditions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:   Any combination of education and experience which demonstrates the knowledge and experience to perform the work assigned.

LICENSES AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:   Must be at least 18 years of age and, if a current student, be in good standing with the educational institution. Possess a valid Alaska driver’s license.  Successfully pass a background check and pre-employment drug screening prior to beginning work.

This position is a temporary position expected to last up to 10 weeks.  This position will not accrue personal leave and is not eligible for medical or retirement benefits.

PAY RANGE:  $15.00 per hour
