Position: FULL TIME LIBRARY ASSISTANT
Salary: $20.25-21.49/ hourly
The City of Unalaska is accepting applications for the position of Full-Time Library Assistant at the Unalaska Public Library in the Parks, Culture, and Recreation Department. Located in the central Aleutian Islands, Unalaska, Alaska is a multicultural coastal community of approximately 4,500 full-time residents and is home to the number one commercial fishing port in the United States, the International Port of Dutch Harbor.
The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification. Shown are duties intended to provide a representative summary.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: This position, under direct supervision from the City Librarian, provides routine clerical and library work in answering phones, receiving patrons, circulation of library materials, collection of library fines, providing customer assistance, cash handling, and data processing.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Ability to work with the public in a courteous, efficient, and professional manner. Verbal and written communication skills. Working knowledge of office practices and procedures. Ability to use basic office equipment. Dedication to maintaining confidentiality of library patron records. Knowledge of and ability to accurately maintain record keeping and filing systems. Must be proficient in a Windows environment. Have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public. Able to perform variety of miscellaneous duties as assigned such as but not limited to answering phones, run errands, make arrangements for use of library facilities, set up tables and chairs for classes and help with planning and presenting programs to the public. Experienced in presenting programs to the public, especially children.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or G.E.D.
Two (2) or more years of experience working in a professional office, providing public service, or previous library experience preferred.
Other combination of education and experience which could provide the knowledge, skills and abilities listed will be evaluated on an individual basis.
LICENCES & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Alaska driver's license or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of employment and prior to operating a city-owned vehicle.
Must be eligible to work in the US; if hired must complete employment eligibility verification form (I-9) as required by Federal law.
Successfully pass background test which includes criminal background, professional and reference check.
Successfully pass a pre-employment drug test.
Hours are set by library operational needs and require non-traditional work hours.

$5,000 Relocation Assistance (taxable), if applicable.
Travel allowance $2,000 every year on your date of hire after 1st year of employment.

40 hours of Floating Holiday per year plus holiday pay.
