Position: ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (Powerhouse)
Hiring Wage: $43.80 – $46.46/ hour
The City of Unalaska is accepting applications for the position of Electrical Engineering Technician (Powerhouse) in Public Utilities. Located in the central Aleutian Islands, Unalaska, Alaska is a multicultural coastal community of approximately 4,500 full-time residents and is home to the number one commercial fishing port in the United States, the International Port of Dutch Harbor.
The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification. Shown are duties intended to provide a representative summary.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Reports and works under the Power Plant Supervisor. This position provides technical support to the power generation and power distribution division. This individual prepares engineering drawings, charts, maps, specifications, legal descriptions and cost estimates. Assesses and requisitions needed materials and maps finished work for future reference. Will operate electrical test equipment and identifies right-of-way easements and makes customer notifications as needed. Performs maintenance on minor electrical disconnects and maintains one line diagram and system map.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Comprehensive knowledge of principles and practices as applied to electrical systems. Ability to establish productive professional working relationships both within the departments and public. Ability to read and interpret electrical designs and construction plans and specifications. Ability to follow verbal and written standards, policies and procedures to work projects. Knowledge and ability to prepare various technical documents, cost estimates, maintenance of records and prepare reports. Working comprehensive knowledge of algebra, trigonometry and mathematical tables. Possess basic knowledge of nomenclature and conventional symbols. Proficient in Windows environment and install program and maintain protection devices for electrical utility systems and installing programing and maintenance of Process Logic Controller and Auto –CAD. Ability to learn and comply with required OSHA safety regulations and all standards of safety set by the City, State of Alaska and any Federal requirements.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent; combinations of education and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis
Required to have two (2) years’ experience in electrical switch gear maintenance and two (2) years of related experience in electrical power production and distribution systems.
High voltage rating or experience or journeyman level electrician is preferred.
LICENCES & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Required to have, or be able to obtain an Alaska Driver’s License within 90 days of hire.
Ability to pass all required pre-employment testing i.e. Criminal background and History and random drug testing
Must be eligible to work in the US; requirements by Federal Law if hired must complete employment eligibility verification form (I-9)
Ability to work occasional emergency or non-traditional hours
Ability to work in conditions that are inherent to an industrial environment
Maintain active and current certifications and licensing for the duration of employment

Travel allowance $2,000 every year on your date of hire.
